Swash Channel off Boca Grande Update December 2010
As of December 2010, there have been reports of further shoaling in this channel. Several boaters have reported that they have made this transit without incident while others could not find their way past the bar. What follows may be the best course but use it with extreme caution. Heading south the waypoint BG 1 is .5 nm off the shore parallel to the Lighthouse. BG 2 is just off what is marked as a 5' spot. BG 3 is between the 5' spot and the 6' spot. Heading for BG 4 takes you to just off the old pier traveling across the inside of the 6' spot which appears to disappeared. From here head to BG 5 and then BG 6. Do not skip BG 6 as there are shallows north of this waypoint. Remember that Swash Channel can be very rough during heavy weather and there can be breaking waves which are to be avoided.
