Welcome Everything You Need to Know Club Activities Club History Club Services Events Calendar of Events Menus SYC Sailing Camp Goes Fishing

There are so many things to do at SYC, the only problem is how members fit them into their busy schedules.

Yachting activities are numerous and varied.  Luncheon day cruises to local waterfront restaurants and Friday through Sunday weekend cruises to other yacht clubs within a day's run are scheduled each month.  There is an all-member harbor cruise during Labor Day Weekend , the Blessing of the Fleet in March (when each SYC boat parades by the bridge officers), a predicted log contest and fishing tournaments.  There is the annual extended cruise whose destination (such as Key West, the Bahamas and up the ICW as far as Charleston changes each year.  There is also a mini-extended cruise, often times throughout the Tampa Bay area.  And then there is the SYC Invitational Regatta, part of the Sarasota Bay Yachting Association Boat of the Year series, which became an annual event in 2001 a result of SYC's renewed focus on sailing.

But perhaps the favorite yachting event of all is the spectacular
Lighting of the Fleet
just before Christmas.  With power and sailboats colorfully decorated, and their lights ablaze throughout the marina, members move into the club for dinner. Prizes then are awarded for best boat decorations.

Social events dominate each month's calendar.  Throughout the year, there are formal functions (the
Commodore's Ball, Past Commodore's Ball and the Holly Ball.) And once a month theme parties, from Valentine's Day to Halloween
, luaus to lobster feasts, with all national holidays celebrated as well.  Change of Watch, when the new Commodore and Bridge Officers are introduced is an important event in October, as are the Candle Light Dinner and New Years Eve Celebration in December.  The annual Anniversary Party in April features has headlined entertainment such as "The Blues Brothers" and "The Drifters."

Santa visits SYC at Christmas for a children’s party, arriving by boat the Sunday before Christmas.  (Santa watches the calendar: if Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, Santa thoughtfully arrives one week earlier.) The Easter Bunny busies himself preparing eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt
on Easter Sunday.  The staff carefully prepares vari-colored eggs, but only one “gold” and one “silver” egg.  Prizes are awarded.
